Definition of «mitral valve»

The mitral valve is a heart valve that separates the left atrium from the left ventricle. It allows blood to flow from the left atrium into the left ventricle, and prevents it from flowing back into the left atrium when the heart contracts. The mitral valve works in conjunction with the tricuspid valve on the right side of the heart to ensure efficient circulation of blood throughout the body.
